Brutal rule of contest

Most time I think about contest and I ask myself that contest is good or bad?
Yesterday I read a short story about contest and I decided to put it on the site.
2 hunters went to the forest for hunting. When they were looking for hank in the forest, suddenly they saw a wolf. The wolf came near them. They were afraid of it and decided to escape. At this time, one of them thought and then he quickly put his knapsack on the earth.
Other hunter wondered and asked him" if you put your knapsack on the earth, you can't run faster than the wolf, so what is advantage of this act?"
First hunter answered "I didn't want to run faster than the wolf. My purpose is antedating you. The secret of my salvation is antedating you."
I am thinking about this story that our success is antedating other or being comrade with them?

Dear Fateme, You are dealing here with one of the dilemmas that mankind faces: Does someone have to be first? Does someone have to control? I am of the opinion that cooperation is far superior to competition. Both men would be saved if one climbed a tree and helped the other follow! Rumi has told one of my favorite stories like this, called The Lame Goat. The lame goat is last of the herd going up the hill, but leads the rest coming down. Isn't that a good thought?

I have a few questions about what you wrote:
1. I don't know what hank is.
2. I think your topic might be better phrased in English if you say, "Many times I think about competition and ask myself, 'Is it good or bad?'"
3. I'm not sure what you mean by antedating. Thisword means going first in time, such as "The history of Iran antedates the history of America."

Question: What would be a better word here?

Your friend, Sue

P.S. I love your stories, and I have decided that no one can tell stories like an Iranian! You are the best story tellers in the world!
