Dear Niloofar,

I am going to rewrite your letter. Compare it to your letter and see the mistakes that need to be corrected:

"If you remember me, my name is Niloofar, and I am an engineer and work in a factory.

I live with my family. My family includes (Watch your verbs) my father, mother and two sisters.

I would like (verbs, again!) to know how chidren live in America. Do they live with their familys, or not?

Thank you, Niloofar"

The answer to your question is that there is no one answer. It depends on the family and on economic times. When times are bad and money is scarce, young people tend to live with the parent for a longer period of time. However, it is desirable for most young people to move out of their parents home by the end of their college years.

There is a desire for independence on the part of youth in America, and families also want their children to achieve economic independence. Family ties, however, are kept strong with frequent dinner invitations and visits.

Your friend, Sue
