Sue, I think it would be a wonderful idea to pick up good films for our classes and then discuss its language. To make the film more useful we can later swim deeper and discuss its plot and our own interpretation of the film's meaning. We can also choose short stories that are available on the internet, a piece of poetry or a newspaper article for this same purpose.

Would you perhaps be able to find articles from important, daily American newspapers?

Sounds like a good class plan - but movies are 2 hours usually - would that fit in your class schedule? I dont know what kind of articles you want? Our papers are full of mostly news and opinion pieces. What do you have in mind?

Sue, We can watch the films at home and review the important parts in class. Zhivago, How the west was won, Cat on a hot tin roof, patch adams are some of my all time favorites. I consider some of the American films profoundly mystical. Watching them with you, Sue adds to their depth and makes them more memorable for us.
