The Rope

The story tells about a mountain climber who wanted to climb the highest mountain.
He decided to climb the mountain alone. The night fell heavily in the heights of the mountain and the man could not see anything. As he was climbing, only a few feet away from the top of the mountain, he slipped and fell into the air. All of a sudden he felt the rope tied to pulled his waist and pulled him very hard. His body was hanging the air... . Only the rope was holding him. And in that moment of stillness he had no other choice but to scream: "Help me God!"
All of a sudden, a deep voice coming from the sky answered: "What do you want me to do?"
"Save me God!"
"Do you really think I can save you?"
"Of course I believe you can."
"Then cut the rope tied to your waist of..."
There was a moment of silence...
And the man decided to hold the rope with all his strength.
The rescue team tells that the next day a climbers was found dead and frozen. His body hanging from a rope, his hands holding tight to it, Only three feet away from the ground.
And you? How attached are you to your rope? Will you let it go?
Don't even doubt one thing from God. Don't never should say that He has forgotten you.
Don't even think that He dose not take care of you. Remember that he is always holding you with His hand.

Faranak,

I am sorry about last Friday's class and hope to see you with Fattemeh tomorrow. I like your story a lot. I myself have a lot of such ropes around every limb including even my neck. I believe that all the prophets, philosophers and great writers wanted to do was to help us to tear such ropes and set us free.

Rumi says, "Band bogsal bash azad ei pesar / chand bashi bande simo bande zar" Translation: tear the rope and be free son / How long being tied in the ropes of silver and gold?

Dear Faranak, Your story teaches such a great lesson: fear and anxiety often keep us from hearing that still, small voice that whispers in our ear, and in our hearts.

Sue, I have seen this sentence on one of American coins: In God We Trust. It seems like God sometimes tests our trust.

I'm not sure if God tests our trust or we test his will. If I pray and my prayer is answered, I say that God loves me, but if it is not...What then? It may be that God's will does not include the personal wish that we cherish. I keep returning to Thoreau's letter after his brother's death:

"Soon the ice will melt and the blackbirds will sing along the river which he(brother John) frequented, as pleasantly as ever. The same everlasting serenity will appear on this face of God, and we will not be sorrowful, if He is not." Our trust is not that God will grant our wishes, but that he knows best. "In God we Trust."
