Can Anyone Help me????

Recently I visited an Iranian market here in Denver and bought some delicious treats. However, there are two things that I just don't know how to use: I bought a jar of Pickled Mangos, or, as it says, Anbeh Torshi. I know what mangos are, but how does one use pickled mangos? The other is a jar of "Yogourt Soda". Why did I buy it? I don't know. Help!
The contents say it has yogurt, salt, carbonated water and flavoring. Now what can I do with this?

Sue,
I myself have not seen Anbe Torshi yet. I don't think any of our Iranian friends here have seen it either. However, it is very common for Iranians to mix vinegar with a lot of other things and eat them with their foods as pickles. Iranians who like Anbe (or as we commonly say "Ambe")Torshi eat it with some foods. Now which food goes better with this particular type of pickle is a matter of taste. You must taste it in slight amounts with each bite or spoon of various foods. Then you'll discover what food to accompany it with.
We call that yogurt soda "doogh" in Iran. It is a very popular drink here. The spices added to doogh vary with tastes, but the main ingredients are yogurt, water and salt. In order to avoid too much salt, we wait until the yogurt gets a little bit sour and then add water and whatever spices each person prefers for himself. People drink it cold when they are thirsty in hot weather. No one likes it hot. Some people drink it with their foods. It is never suitable or delicious with some foods. You must test and taste it with several foods for yourself and discover when to use it.
Hope this helps. I hope other Iranian friends tell us how they use their "doogh" and their various "pickles".

Ambe Torshi may be like our watermelon pickles. The American Amish sect have the custom that they must have seven sweets and seven sours on every dinner table.

I wonder about the Yogurt Soda or doogh. What spices would be good to add? Is it common to add sugar? Do I drink it as I would a cold Coke or Pepsi?

Dried mint and pennyroyal are very common. Maryam sometimes adds some garlic powder which I enjoy very much. I have never heard of any spices being added. I do not think anybody pours any spice in doogh.
>> Is it common to add sugar? <<
Never. It is typically sour. Better avoid the salt for your health.
>> Do I drink it as I would a cold Coke or Pepsi?<<
Yes, exactly. In fact, in all the Iranian restaurants the waiter would typically ask, "Shall I bring you a doogh or a Coke?"
Sue, you are a perfect Persian now. Did you know that?
